WickedLeak has launched the next version of the Wammy Desire. The 7-inch Wammy Desire 2 costs Rs 9,999 and is currently available on the company’s website. The company said deliveries will commence from May 15, 2013.
The Wammy Desire came with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, but the Wammy Desire 2 is available out of the box with either a stable version of Android 4.0 ICS or a beta version of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. However, WickedLeak warns that the beta Jelly Bean version may have some bugs. The company says it will release the stable version of Android 4.2 for the tablet by June, this year.
WickedLeak also states that users can switch between the two operating systems by contacting its support team at its website “anytime without affecting warranty”. We wonder why the company simply didn’t wait until it could get its hands on a stable version of Android 4.2 to load on the tablet.

However, apart from the strange operating system issue, the Wammy Desire 2 is more powerful than its predecessor. It has a Samsung Exynos 4412 SoC with a quad-core 1.4GHz Cortex A9 processor and a Mali 400 GPU – far better than the Wammy Desire’s dual-core CPU. The display has also been upgraded. The screen has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, which means it has a pixel density of 210 ppi.
On the memory front, the Desire 2 has the same amount of RAM and storage space as its predecessor: 1GB and 8GB, respectively. There’s a microSD slot that supports cards up to 32GB in size, which should be useful.
Although the Wammy Desire 2’s imaging abilities seem limited, they’re still better than that of the Wammy Desire—there are two cameras in evidence now. The primary camera is a 2-megapixel unit, whereas the front-facing camera has a 0.3-megapixel sensor.
The standard connectivity options are also present; there’s Wi-Fi, 3G via USB dongle, Bluetooth, a USB port, an HDMI port and GPS. The tablet is powered by a 3,000 mAh battery that the company says will last for five to six hours.
