Micromax launches 5.3-inch Canvas Doodle A111 for Rs 12,999

Micromax has quietly launched a Samsung Galaxy Note competitor, the Micromax Canvas Doodle A111, which is available online for Rs 12,999. The online retailer says the handset will be dispatched within three days of receiving the order.

As a Note rival, the Doodle sports a stylus, which looks rather thick in comparison to Samsung’s svelte S-Pen. The dual-SIM Canvas Doodle has a 5.3-inch capacitive display, but Micromax has not specified the resolution of the display. Given the price and the screen size, we reckon it will be a qHD resolution.

In terms of processing power, the Doodle shares the Canvas HD’s 1.2GHz quad-core processor, but instead of a MediaTek MT6589 chipset, Micromax has gone with the Qualcomm MSM8225Q processor, which was also seen in the Karbonn Titanium S1. Additionally, there’s 512MB of RAM and while the GPU has not been mentioned, it could be the Adreno 203 GPU that's under the hood in the S1. The smartphone will be running Android 4.1.2 out of the box, with minor customisations in the notification drawer, besides some cosmetic changes.

Just like the Canvas HD, the Doodle will also have an 8-megapixel camera on the back, accompanied by a VGA shooter on the front for Skype and self-portraits. User accessible memory is 1.22GB, which can be enhanced further up to 32GB using the microSD card slot. In terms of longevity, the phone looks to be in capable hands thanks to the 2100mAH battery.

Surprisingly, none of the pictures of the phone show where the stylus resides on the phone, leading us to believe Micromax may have an inelegant solution like a lanyard.
