WickedLeak Wammy Titan II Review
Quad-core phones seem to be all the rage these days with almost all mobile phone manufacturers bumping up the specs and releasing quad-core handsets. HTC, Samsung and Sony are competing with each other with the fastest and smartest phone yet. Not too far on the horizon, we are seeing other budget phone manufacturers catching up the trend. WickedLeak has revamped one of its older dual-core models with a quad-core gut—yet again, at a cheaper price. Let’s check out the Wammy Titan II.
Scaled down from the older Titan, this one has a 5.3-inch IPS
Design and build
Not much to say here, the build quality is the same as that of the Titan. The only minor difference is the overall size, which has been toned down. The main reason behind this is the display size being cut down from 5.5-inches to 5.3-inches. The rest of the handset is almost the same in terms of design and looks. There are a few significant differences, but you can notice it only if you actually compare the two models side by side. The Titan II has the front camera placed on the left of the sensors, and the Home button is D-shaped. While the Titan had the power and volume rockers on either side of the shell, the Titan II has all the buttons placed on the right side, leaving only the micro USB slot and 3.5 mm jack on the bottom and top respectively. The glossy rear panel has an 8MP camera with LED flash and a speaker grille on the bottom. You can choose to switch the rear panel with the matte-finish flip-case bundled with the product.

Features
The Titan II is high on features. Just a few days ago, WickedLeak gave the market its first quad-core handset, the Wammy Passion Y HD. The Titan II has the exact same hardware except for a few minor differences, which manages to cut down the price by almost Rs 1,500. The Titan II sports a 5.3-inch IPS display with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels as opposed to the Passion’s 5-inch IPS screen with a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution. The second difference is the battery rating, which has been increased a bit from 2800 mAh to 3000 mAh. And lastly, the front camera has been upgraded from 2MP to 5MP. The rest of the hardware is identical, which includes the quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 2GB of RAM, PowerVR SGX544 GPU and 4GB of internal storage.

Performance
Testing the Titan II using standard benchmarking apps was done as usual. AnTuTu scored 12478, Quadrant scored 3764 while Nenamark2 resulted in 53 fps. Lastly, Linpack scored 37 MFLOPS in the single thread test and 127 in the multi-thread test. Going by the synthetic tests, the Titan II scored almost similar points as the Passion Y HD. And why not, since the hardware is the same. Strangely, the NenaMark2 Score on the Titan II was almost double as compared to the Passion HD’s scores.

Display and user interface
The only difference between the Titan and the Titan II is the screen size, which has been dropped by 0.2 inches. The resolution and the IPS panel stays the same with no difference in the display quality. The display quality is very nice and crisp with decent levels of brightness, contrast and colours. Since the operating system is the same, with Android v4.2 to be released shortly, the performance and stability of all three phones (Titan, Titan II and Passion Y HD) are pretty much identical.

Media
Out of the box, the Titan II can playback all your music and media files without a sigh. We ran a few standard to full HD videos and did not manage to find any unusual flaws. Full HD 1080p videos were almost flawless, but you can notice a very minor framing in fast motion videos if you are hunting for issues in it. The device can also handle 4K or 2160p videos, but not to an extent of it being watchable. It is very erratic, quite jittery, sluggish, and the audio and video sync is missing. Hopefully, the OS upgrade to v4.2 will fix it.
Standard JB user interface with a few free apps pre-installed
The rear speaker is pretty loud when using it indoors and the audio quality is above average. The audio volume outdoors is a tad low and you will need headphones even for casual videos and music playback. The bundled headphones are in-ear type; they match the phone’s white glossy colour and look pretty good too. But sadly, the audio quality of the earphones is below average. They can be good enough for basic home videos and voice calls, but if you want to enjoy music and videos, you would need to invest in better quality earphones. Overall, the Titan II is a great video entertainment device when on the move.

Camera
The Titan II sports an 8MP camera which is similar in performance as the one seen on the Passion Y HD. Images shot by the Titan are pretty good and sharp, with a good balance of colours. Low-light and indoor photos are average but not as bad as we expected. Even macro images are pretty good. Not too sure if the imaging will be different and improves after the new OS update. The present system information states that the camera is a 12MP unit, whereas it is actually an 8MP sensor. You can shoot in 12MP resolution, but the images don't get any clearer. It is only the resolution of the image that gets bumped up.
Outdoor shots are quite good as compared to any other budget phone we have seen
Indoor shots are decent, but a tad grainy and blur
Macro shots are good too, colours are a bit vibrant
Battery life
As for the battery life, the Titan II sports a 3000 mAh battery as opposed to the 2800 mAh battery on both the Titan and the Passion Y HD. In our continuous video loop test, we attained almost 9 hours and 10 minutes till the battery finally could no longer carry on. As far as regular usage is concerned, we used this phone for almost two and a half days and had to charge the battery just once in between. During this period, the phone was used for casual Internet browsing, watching videos, taking pictures and, of course, using the phone to make calls. So on an average, we can assure you that you would only need to charge the phone when you are asleep, unless otherwise.

Verdict and price in India
The Titan II is priced lower than the Passion Y HD by Rs 1,500. Those seeking a budget smartphone with the performance of the Passion Y HD can opt for the Titan II, but would have to stay with the slightly larger screen with a lower resolution. However, if you want a higher resolution display, the Passion Y HD is a good option. The Titan II is quite heavier than the other two models (Titan and Passion Y HD) and stands at a whopping 199 g. The reason could be the tad larger screen and the higher capacity battery. But overall, the Titan II is a great quad-core Android-based smartphone with an IPS display for a very cheap price.
